Civilizational Problem or Political Crisis? Comparative Analysis of Mālek Bennabi and Syed Mawdūdī’s Approach to Renaissance

After having reached the stage where Islamic civilization delivered optimum, it started declining. Nevertheless, in different epochs of history, some remarkable personalities emerged reclaiming functionality iḥyā; i.e., renaissance principle. In contemporary times, Mālek Bennabī and Syed Mawdūdī have phenomenally contributed to Muslim discourse. Both them critically examined pathology jumūd; tendency stagnation world. Although, they identified similar causes symptoms, nevertheless, lived socio-political contexts, came up with certain methodological differences their approach. scholars developed a systematic response suggesting way forward--the method renaissance. Bennabī’s discourse, is fundamentally civilizational, crisis civilizational equation between man, soil time. While Mawdūdī’s political; nature political relation state, society religion.
